About

Hi!
I’m Marissa Barber! —Owner of Richmond Movement Center! I’m so excited to bring this beautiful movement space to life here in the heart of Richmond’s Art District! I’m a Virginia native, mover and shaker! I grew up in the mountains of Harrisonburg, dancing since I could walk, attended James Madison University for dance, and eventually made my way over to the River City (where the rest of my family lives!). Post-uni, I have continued training in New York, Europe, and the PNW! I danced professionally with Harrisonburg Dance Co-Op and RVA Dance Collective in VA while obtaining my teacher training certificate in the classical method of Pilates (at the best training program in VA, Pilates804, here in Richmond!). I moved to NYC to work with Cora Dance Brooklyn—and continue to collaborate and work with them in NYC and VA! I’m sober! I like loud music! Movement is my passion and movement is my root. Healing bodies and spirits is my gift. Connecting people together gives me life. Giving back to the community is what I live for. I’m so incredibly excited to be on this part of my journey of bringing everything together under one roof! I want to help facilitate creating a vessel for artists to learn and create and grow. A place to come into your body and into your being. In community with people wanting the same. No matter your background. No matter your financial status. Train your bodies and minds and most importantly…. HAVE FUN. Enjoy moving and breathing and smiling and laughing at how good or how difficult something is! PLAY is the answer to a lot of life’s problems, I think. And more dance. Let’s bring that back into social society. SO THERE YOU HAVE IT! A tiny, tiny snippet of who I am and what I envision this place being!

EXCITED TO BE HERE. EXCITED TO MEET YOU.
I AM VERY GOOFY. LET’S HAVE FUN AND MOVE TOGETHER!

Cheers! x
